What we do know is that the blast from the gun smashed the head of the humerus bone which left her shoulder a mass of tiny bone fragments and gunshot. Because nobody helped her, her body tried to repair itself but unfortunately the humerus calcified (became inflexible) and the damage was done.  The damage was permanent and beyond repair. After weeks of rest the heartbreaking decision was reached, in consultation with our vet, to amputate the leg. To not do so would mean continuous discomfort and pain for brave Honey. Animals do incredible well with three legs, they don’t question the change in the body, they don’t agonise over the loss of a limb, they get up, adjust their balance and prepare to meet life head-on. Honey is doing just that, she has been, from the moment she first went into foster care, the sweetest natured dog with the most perfect temperament. She has made herself very comfortable with the household dogs, is beginning to gain strength after a very long and complicated operation which took two and a half hours! She loves life, has no mistrust of people, in fact she adores people. She is exceedingly playful and gentle and if given a dog treat, will give you her heart. Her foster carer describes her as a beautiful dog. She is all and more than that. She has a superb temperament, glorious colouring and she is every German shepherd owners dream dog. This gorgeous girl is a happy go lucky dog and is amazinginly well behaved with other dogs. She has the keen intelligence associated with her breed and has the benefit of been house trained and is just so adaptable. She is also obedience trained, she was very easy to train. Honey has that rare quality, sheer perfection. She will be the best dog you have ever owned.
